Friday afternoon ; the peak period whereby the infamous lunch crowd would flood all the eating places, causing lines to form outside many makan places.
But this is not the case on an unbusy stretch of road named Lorong Kilat which seem to be forgotten or left out.
Curiosity to try out the Korean restaurants here which have received mixed reviews, have brought me here for lunch - Woorinara
Walking along the shophouses, You would not miss the restaurant with its prominent signage and "chicken" logo making it noticeable from afar.
The restaurant has a simple Korean restaurant style deco.
We choose a seat that provided a good view of the screen, as it was playing BigBang music video.
The smell and decoration of the interior of the restaurant reminds me of the time when I was travelling in Korea. Most Korean restaurants have this simple deco and homey feel.
The menu offers a large variety of authentic Korean food. Some of them comes in different sizes S, M, L( sounds like clothes) you can choose based on the number of people sharing the food. We have decided prior to coming that we wanted to try the stew and fried chicken. The waitress/ boss also gave us some recommendations. She was really polite and friendly, trying to explain to me about the dishes with her limited vocabulary in English.
The restaurant also provides barley water as refreshment for their customers.
( You can save some money on the drinks)
Spicy sausage and ham stew or Army stew: Comes with ramen (top with cheese), fish cake, luncheon meat sausages and lots of kimchi. The soup base is super delicious; it is not too spicy or sour help to bind all the ingredients together.
Rating : 4/5
Garlic Chicken with Yum Yum sauce: Comes in either sweet or spicy version and bone or boneless (the boneless version is more expensive)
The chicken are serves in big pieces coated generously with the selected sauces. I am not a huge fan of fried chicken but I must say that the chicken taste heavenly. I ate three pieces at one go. The spicy version still taste rather sweet, maybe its because we choose the garlic chicken? But having tasted Korean fried chicken at a few places recently, the chicken at woorinara is currently the BEST.
A must must try when you drop-by this restaurant.
Rating : 4.5/5
Overall, this restaurant is worth a try, as it serves decent authentic Korean food at reasonable price. There are still lots more option to choose from the menu beside the stew and chicken. So I guess I will be back soon...
