1 for 1 Breakfast at Marche Movenpick (JEM)

For those who can afford the luxury of time to have Breakfast on a weekday, Marche Movenpick at JEM is having a fabulous 1 for 1 deal. It is available only from 8-11 am on weekdays.
I am so happy that I am able to make time to enjoy this deal and have a sumptuous breakfast on a midweek morning.
The setting for a perfect morning meal.

We ordered the Marche Movenpick Breakfast. (S$16.90)
It comes with a choice of either fried or scrambled organic eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans served in a pot and breads served in a basket.

The sliced bread tasted heavenly when drizzled with the extra virgin olive oil.

Their serving was rather huge for me and I cannot finish the entire meal but enjoyed every bit of it.

For beverage I ordered hot chocolate. It tasted just right not too thick nor watery. With the huge serving you can order it for sharing.
Hope I will have more time to try out other items on their menu, can't wait to try their breakfast pizza next.

Woori-Nara (@ Lorong Kilat)

Friday afternoon ; the peak period whereby the infamous lunch crowd would flood all the eating places, causing lines to form outside many makan places.
But this is not the case on an unbusy stretch of road named Lorong Kilat which seem to be forgotten or left out.
Curiosity to try out the Korean restaurants here which have received mixed reviews, have brought me here for lunch  - Woorinara
Walking along the shophouses, You would not miss the restaurant with its prominent signage and "chicken" logo making it noticeable from afar.

The restaurant has a simple Korean restaurant style deco.
We choose a seat that provided a good view of the screen, as it was playing BigBang music video.

The smell and decoration of the interior of the restaurant reminds me of the time when I was travelling in Korea. Most Korean restaurants have this simple deco and homey feel.

The menu offers a large variety of  authentic Korean food. Some of them comes in different sizes S, M, L( sounds like clothes) you can choose based on the number of people sharing the food. We have decided prior to coming that we wanted to try the stew and fried chicken. The waitress/ boss also gave us some recommendations. She was really polite and friendly, trying to explain to me about the dishes with her limited vocabulary in English.

The restaurant also provides barley water as refreshment for their customers.
( You can save some money on the drinks)

These are the side dishes or Banchan served. It was the first time I had  fresh salad as banchan,  with cabbage/corn/peach.

Spicy sausage and ham stew or Army stew: Comes with ramen (top with cheese), fish cake, luncheon meat sausages and lots of kimchi. The soup base is super delicious; it is not too spicy or sour help to bind all the ingredients together.
Rating : 4/5

Garlic Chicken with Yum Yum sauce:  Comes in either sweet or spicy version and bone or boneless (the boneless version is more expensive)
The chicken are serves in big pieces coated generously with the selected sauces. I am not a huge fan of  fried chicken but I must say that the chicken taste heavenly. I ate three pieces at one go. The spicy version still taste rather sweet, maybe its because we choose the garlic chicken? But having tasted Korean fried chicken at a few places recently, the chicken at woorinara is currently the BEST.
A must must try when you drop-by this restaurant.
Rating : 4.5/5

Overall, this restaurant is worth a try, as it serves decent authentic Korean food at reasonable price. There are still lots more option to choose from the menu beside the stew and chicken. So I guess I will be back soon...

Windowsill Pies

Its Desert Time Again !

After watching the channel 8 program 超级小吃赞3》 snack attack,I was attracted to visit Windowsill Pies.
So here I am on a lazy Saturday Afternoon.
As I wasn't too familiar with the Jalan Besar area I need the help of Google map before I can locate this shop,
which was hidden among numerous hardware shops.

The cafe was crowded with many patrons enjoying an afternoon tea while others are mugging.

They serve a large variety of pies and the young man was kind enough to introduce and explain to us
the different types of pie that they serve.

In the end we choose :

Banana Almond Brittle : Creamy and soft banana filling mixed with sweet caramel crunch gives an interesting taste and texture.
Pecan pie: A traditional pie, I love the sticky and sweet filling which goes well with the crunchy pecan on top.
My favorite of the two is the Pecan Pie!

Both pies cost S$7/each. Which is rather pricey as the portions are small.

Besides eating the cafe also provides a artistic corner where its patrons can be inspired and at the same time express their creative side.

New Table @ Suntec City : New York Grand Kitchen

After undergoing a facelift, Suntec City Mall has imported many new restaurants that can't be found anywhere else in Town.
During my virgin trip to this "new" mall, I decided to give New York Grand Kitchen a try.

Silhouette of  the Statue of Liberty at the entrance of the restaurant.

Deli bar - Main attraction of the restaurant, with free flow of salads, soups, tortilla, bread for their diners.

The walnut bread and croissant are a must try.
You can make your own salad. A healthy start to your meal.

Trying out the large variety of salads.

They have a large variety of mains in their menu with rotisserie chicken as the highlight.
I decided to order grilled pork with tortilla (can't remember the exact name of this dish), it was a Fantastic Choice !

The pork were succulent, tender and goes perfectly with the sauce and onions. You only wish they are more generous with the portion of pork. Yummy !

The Mouses House Rainforest Retreat - Springbrook

Have you ever been on a Rainforest retreat?

Even though Singapore is a tropical country surrounded by rainforests, I am sure not many of us have been on a retreat in the rainforest, think camping in Bt Timah Hill ...Not your idea of a gateaway right?

So here I was in The Hinterland, Gold Coast, Australia, driving along the winding road of The Hinterland towards The Mouses House heading towards a retreat in the Rainforest. It is the Number one place to stay tripadvisor. It is also the most memorable places that I have stayed while on a Holiday, due to its unique location, it being a real cottage and the amenities provided are 5 stars. (Maybe even better than some 5 stars hotel)

There are also many activities to do in and around the resort, I wish I could have stayed there longer.

For those who are worried that you will be disconnected from your friends during your retreat. You will be delighted to know that Wifi is provided FREE at The Mouses house.

Let me show you some pictures.
This is the chalet that we stayed in. It is called HAPPY.

All their chalets are named after characters from the Fairy tale - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The office/ lobby/ check in counter. The staffs are so friendly and they are most willing to recommend us some of the things to do around the area.

Top view, there is a room with a single bed on the second level, accessible using the ladder.
The PS3 is loaded with a wide selection of Hollywood movies that you can watch, games and also music.

My favorite part of the chalet, the fireplace. Its a real fireplace, that burns with the wood and help to keep us warm as the temperature can be quite cold at night.

The kitchen, as there are no food around especially during Dinner time, it's best to bring food to cook your own. Even though it look small, the kitchen is fully equipped.
The toilet is so clean and modern.

The bed comes with electric warmer and behind the bed is a small room where the Jacuzzi is, a perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day.

There are many lookouts around the area, I went to "BEST of all LOOKOUT" to watch the sunset.

It really offer a magnificent view. There is no other visitors there so we can take our time to breath in the fresh air, admire the view, take as many pictures as we want.

In the morning, I went to Canyon Lookout (3 mins drive from The mouses house), to watch the sun rise.

You can spot Hot air balloons , a splendid view of Surfer Paradise and admire the Canyon, Valleys while waiting for the sun rise.

Natural Arch is also a short drive away. It is another must visit place at Springbrook.

All the activities that I mentioned are free of charge. In addition you can also visit the glow worms (there are tours that you can join) in the caves and do star grazing at night. Be sure to bring your own torch lights.

If you are dropping by Springbrook be sure to stay at The Mouses House !

Brotzeit @ Star Vista

Are you ready for some GERMAN food ?

Had a late lunch at Brotzeit today, so we missed the lunch set which ends at 3pm.

We ordered the famous pork knuckle. It is so photogenic. (I love that !)

The skin of the knuckle is very crispy but the meat is slightly hard and takes a long time to chew as the whole knuckle was deep fried.

The dish comes with two sides the German cabbage and mashed potato. Both side dishes taste sour, I am sure why I am guessing it may have something to do with the German taste bud.

Another must -try at Brotzeit are the sausages. There are so many different variety of pork sausages to choose from, in the end we decided to order the sausage platter which serves all the different variety of sausage. It also comes with three different sauces for you to go along with the sausages. I would recommended to go with mustard to add that extra punch to your sausage.

My favorite are the Spicy and the cheese pork sausage.

Besides the main dishes to also ordered some side dishes.

Napkin dumpling

Taste slightly chewy and cheesy with a crunchy exterior but I cannot figure out what exactly I was eating. So if you know what is this dumpling make of, please let me know.

This dumpling is delicious and definitely worth a try.

Onion Soup with cheese dumpling

The soup is made to go with the cheese dumpling so it taste bland if taken on its own.
I like that it is loaded with onions and comes with bread for dipping.
The cheese dumplings are surprisingly good, it is chewy with a cheesy aroma.

Where to find Brotzeit ? The Star Vista Level 3, offers both indoor and outdoor seating

BonChon Chicken

Ready for some Fried Chicken ?

BonChon Chicken is another chain of Korean fried chicken that has pop up in Singapore in recent years.
It's main draw for the customers are its fried chicken wing and chicken drumstick, that are available in two flavors- Soy Garlic or spicy.
Order the combo (M or L) to enjoy both the wings and drumlets and also a choice to have both sauces for your chicken.

The chicken are really crispy, the skin are coated evenly with the selected sauce.
The Spicy chicken is leaves a mild tingling feeling on your tongue after a few bits.
The Soy garlic flavor has a fermented taste but is slightly on the salty side for me.

Besides the chicken we also ordered a few other dishes to try.

Kimchi Mandu soup- Another recommended dish in the restaurant.

The soup is loaded with Kimchi making it taste sour and spicy. The mandu/ dumpling is chewy and seems to be wrapped with fish meat. - Worth a try!

Scallion Pancake - A letdown

The pancake not only looks unappetizing it tasted bland and needs to go with the soya sauce provided in order to finish the pancake.

Gold Coast Trip - Food

Eating is an expensive affair in Gold Coast, (from a Singaporean point of view). So I have decided to recommend / review a few of the places that I have visited so as not to let my fellow countymen let their penny go to waste.

CHARIS Seafoods

It offers the freshest seafood in town. Their food are only prepared when you make your order.  Not only is their food fresh and yummy their combo pack  are also friendly on your wallet.
The best thing about the place is that it does not offer any indoor seating so you can enjoy your food in the park just outside while watching the joggers and seagulls wandering around the lagoon. Its the perfect place for dinner, especially at sunset. You sure wouldn't find it in Singapore.

It has a wide selection of fresh seafood for sale too. Be sure to try their oyster.

Charis offers the freshest calamari ever, all other items in the family combo pack are also must try for their sheer freshest.

Yatala Pies

Location  : 48 Old Pacific Hwy, Yatala QLD 4207, Australia

The famous Yatala Pie is another must-try when you visit Queensland. It is located somewhere in between Gold Coast and Brisbane. There is a drive-thru for those who need to zoom over to their next destination.

We ordered the chicken and veggie pie, they use fresh veggie instead of the frozen type paired with chicken chucks. It was truly yummy.

Hog's Breath Cafe

Hog's Breath cafe can be found in many place in Gold coast including Surfers Paradise. The rib that we ordered is delicious but the chicken breast was rather tough.

Their serving size was comparatively smaller when compared to other places in Australia. So if you are sharing with your peers make sure you order a few more sides to go along.

Noodle Box- Taste like happy

After meals of western food, I am sure you will miss eating Asian food. Noodle box sells all kind of noodles and even rice. They have a Japanese chef who frieds the dish after the customers made their order.

I ordered Singapore noodle out of curiosity as to what Singapore taste like. There are lots of capsicum, shrimp and chicken fried with bee hoon and placed inside a paper box.

The noodle is slightly moist and too salty for me. But it tasted the closest to home as compared to all other food in Gold coast.
